Two weeks may have passed since Steve Harvey awkwardly announced the wrong winner at the Miss Universe competition on Dec. 20, but people are still curious about it. Now, the winner, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, is opening up about possibly sharing the crown with Miss Colombia — and she’s shockingly against it!
Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, appeared on the Jan. 4 episode of Good Morning America to not only discuss her victorious win at the 2015 competition on Dec. 20, but also to address Steve Harvey‘s infamous on-air mistake — and how she feels about the suggestion that she should share the crown with runner-up, Ariadna Gutierrez.
“I think it would be difficult for two girls to share a crown,” she admitted. “But I have high hopes that this will give great opportunities for me and Miss Colombia and the rest of the contestants.” In case you forgot, the Miss Universe crown was given to Miss Colombia, Ariadna, only to be snatched off her head after Steve revealed he’d made an epic mistake and that Pia was the real winner.
Since the on-air mistake, Pia has taken to Facebook, to thank her fans for their support, but she also asked people to stop being cruel to Miss Colombia, and during the GMA interview, she revealed that she’d reached out to Ariadna after the awkward moment. “I did greet her on her birthday which also happened to be Christmas day,” she explained. “I was able to ask her how she’s doing. She seems like she’s okay. I understand how she feels and I’m also concerned for her. I know that she’s a beautiful young lady and very talented, and I think she’ll have a lot of other opportunities. She’ll do very well I’m sure.”
